Hope my system specs show up here. Basically have a AM2+ Phenom x4 940, 4Gb, Win 32. I was thinking about upgrading for Xmas... Not too impressed with the new 6 core AMDs, but thinking a Sandy Bridge i5 2500? I don't see a great jump in performance going from a 3.0Ghz x4 phenom to a 3.1 Ghz i5 or x6. I don't see many AM2+ procs out there if I ever have an issue with my current one. Would like SATA 3 and USB 3 but not much real need for it yet.

Background: Not a gamer but music producer, short video producer, internet, maybe SQL/PHP developer.
Thought about moving to Win 64, but not sure all my audio apps will work...hardware should be OK. Just upgraded my video card so hope that helps a little.
My computer reboots on rendering of full-screen videos (handles YouTube size OK), but I thought the x4 would be able to handle that.

Should I wait until next year and the AM4, DDR4, PCIe3? Advice for a music production rig?

For music production you don't need anything above what you have now, so an upgrade isn't going to make a load of difference. Your issue with rebooting on full screen videos is almost certainly going to be a graphics card or drive issue.
