Hello to all! This is my first post on this board, so please be patient with me as I am new here. I am currently working on my father-in-laws IBM Thinkpad laptop. When first starting it up, I was amazed to see that a spyware wall paper had taken over his computer. @ first I thought is was just an image file that could be deleted, but I was dead wrong.

So I went through the normal fixes of downloading the usual spyware killers. Adaware, and Spybot. None were able to rid this laptop of its illness. I was only able to get a BSOD (Or what seemed to be a BSOD) that stated the following.

trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c

Please download a spyware removal tool, etc , etc.

After seeing this I was @ a dead end and decided to google "trojan-spy.html.smitfraud.c". And that is what has brought me here. First link lead me to this forum. Please anyone that can help me please help me. Again please be patient with me as I am a noob to this forum.

You are infected with malware

Please go to the malware forum in my signature and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty, then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.
