So I get an error stating that Winsock 2.0 is not installed. My we browsers won't work, nor will my network connection to my server. After reading a little about winsock, it seems that if there is a problem, anything using TCP/IP will be messed up by it.

My problem is I don't know how to fix it. Not sure where to download it. Went to microsoft with no luck.

Please reply.....my job is depending on it.....me and my big brain are gonna get me fired

try this

start > run
cmd
enter

at the prompt type:

netsh int ip reset > C:\ip.txt

it could take a minute or two to complete (finished when you see the c:\documents......

again.

reboot.

OK, so when I get to the command prompt......I have another problem. Been a while since I used dos.

the directory showing is c:/documents and settings/kevin

I tried using the CD/c: to change the directory to just C: but it didn't work. What do I do to get the C prompt by itself?

you don't need to be at the c:\ prompt

will look like
c:\documents and settings\kevin\>netsh int ip reset > C:\ip.txt

you type the bold stuff

To be sure I did this correctly. Once I've typed in that string, it sits for a second or 2 then goes right back to the original prompt. Should I reboot now or should there have been more to it?

Ok, so I rebooted. Nothing has changed. My browser will open, but won't connect. And that dos program is coming back with the same error on the Winsock 2.0 not installed.

go to my computer > local disk > and open ip.txt and paste the contents here.

A program called DEJAWIN. Used for internal accounting/invetory/billing.

Here is the ip.txt file.

I think it says alot, now what the heck do i do about it! lol

Thanks for the help. You got me to the point where I could use Microsofts website to direct me. Got it all workin again. Basically the winsock files were damaged. So i had to repair them, then delete them out of the register, so XP could create a new shell. I then had to reinstall TCP/IP on my network connection. So there, vuala.....the magic of computers.

Thanks a million.....I get to keep my job for another day.

yep, that's corrupt al right

Start > run
regedit
enter

In the left pane of regestry editor navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
right click and choose delete on this folder

then
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2
right click and choose delete on this folder

say yes if asked if you really want to do this

Reboot--YOU MUST REBOOT

Right clock NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD, choose PROPERTIES

Choose the network connection with the corrupt winsock--probably LAN, and right click IT

Click Properties.

Click Install button

Click Protocol, and then click Add.

Click Have Disk button.

Type
C:\Windows\inf
then click OK.

click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

Restart the computer again.

try again
