My computer a month ago started have sound problems where it lags and it's all distorted. My computer is also going much slower then usual. I ran malwarebytes, tdsskiller, avg and none of these things found anything. I ran them also in safe mode but the problem persists.

I also get the occasional message that firefox is using a lot of memory. It says I'm using 158,000 kb of memory. How do I fix this? Please help! Using an old dell desktop.

I also ran a hijackthis log but am unsure of what the results mean..any pointers? Thanks

Hello you can disable these from starting up with windows they can be started at any time by double clicking the icon for the program if need be.
to do that open ccleaner hit tools startup left click on selected item and disable.

Yes HKCU:Run msnmsgr "C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe" /background
Yes HKLM:Run igfxtray C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe
Yes HKLM:Run igfxhkcmd C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
Yes HKLM:Run igfxpers C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe
Yes HKLM:Run QuickTime Task "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
Yes HKLM:Run APSDaemon "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\APSDaemon.exe"
Yes HKLM:Run iTunesHelper "C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"

Also you may consider uninstalling online OnlineArmor cause you already have windows firewall, and many people complain of OnlineArmor being a resource hog but the choice is yours.

Next:
Hit start button at lower left hand corner of the screen. Then in the run box type services.msc. Find the service listed below, one at a time. left click it once the option to either stop the service or restart it you should have, stop the service then right click the selected service select properties then change the startup type to manual then left click apply and move on to the next service.

Microsoft Office Diagnostics
vToolbarUpdater
Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
Office Source Engine
Bonjour Service
Ipod Service
Google Software Updater
Windows CardSpace
Java Quick Starter
Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service
apple mobile device
ati hotkey poller

After completing the above task save all of your work and reboot your machine things running any faster?
Then can you post the uninstall list from ccleaner,Open ccleaner hit tools uninstall save to text file and post in your next reply.

Next have you defragged your machine if not then run this defrag select defrag and optimize (slower use once a week) just decline installing anything that may come with this like toolbars etc it actually a good defrag program.
http://download.cnet...09ff9245791f3d4

In your next reply I need
1:uninstall list
2:Is computer running any better?
3:Now list the services that are running after setting the services to manual that I suggested.

EDIT: You can uninstall lavasoft adaware as I dont see it in the startup list and the service is running.

Go ahead and stop these services and set to manual as per my previous instructions.
apple mobile device
lavasoft Adaware

Also how do you feel about avg?I think your system would improve even more if you uninstalled it and installed avast which is far better in my opinion.
Uninstall avg then run the uninstaller found here.
http://majorgeeks.co...13cd88621e1213a
Reboot your machine then install avast found here.
http://download.cnet...1&part=dl-85737

Next uninstall these programs.
Online Armor 5.1 Emsi Software GmbH 11/2/2011 5.1
Java™ 6 Update 26 Oracle 6/10/2011 94.9 MB 6.0.260
Ad-Aware Lavasoft Limited 9/30/2011 37.5 MB 9.5.0

Next run javara found here.
http://majorgeeks.co...728904ca37e1816
Save it to your desktop unzip it to desktop run it reboot your machine and get a fresh copy of java from here.
http://java.com/en/

Ad-aware can be uninstalled trust me there are better alternatives we will get to that.
In your next post to me please advise as to what you have done.

EDIT: Also do you have your xp cd??
Also what items do you have in startup now??

If you do have your xp cd then follow these instructions.
Place the xp cd in your cd drive then run sfc /scannow
To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

EDIT: Note the space between c and / your better of copy and pasting. sfc /scannow

You can get rid of ctfmon.exe If you boot into safemode:

http://www.microsoft...e.mspx?mfr=true

Once you are in Safe Mode:

click start>computer>c:>windows>system32>scroll down to ctfmon.exe Right click the icon then select delete. Reboot your machine:

If you dont use this program, and never will. Why have it running on your machine? :)
