Thank for any angel here who can help me. I thought I had my system clean as I run regularly Spybot and Adaware not to mention NAV 2005 the utilities...well they got me. One thing I've noticed is that those annoying popups tend to come up when I log onto one of my favourite sites www.Accordo.it whose administrator I know and has assured that has to be a problem of my machine since Accordo is on a super bullet-proof linux machine, sight guarded like fort Knox.

Before posting I've cheked out all the threads on the argument to make sure not to bother uselessly, nut none of those fixes have worked for me, I cannot find none of those "netherlands.exe" or "??xplorer.exe" or any other of those system32 disguised application.

Another strange thing happened: all the Internet Explorer associated files (HTM, HTML etc...) have "lost" their icon. If I go to the settings of the files association and I change the icon to another one or I try to put back the defalut icon, nothing happens. No problem though, if I double click on the "mute" icon still Internet Explorer starts the proper way

OK, at this point I need some more information from you to know where to look next.

Your initial problem: pop-ups. You mentioned one site that was giving you problems. Are there others? Is the problem still happening?

Are you having any other problems besides the icon problem?

It does not happen any more since I've flooded the HOST file with tons of references.
