I want to uninstall ubuntu on a machine without using windows disk. I want to reinstall ubuntu again. I don't want to do upgrade I want to get rid of the one on the machine. I tried hitting the "esc" key when prompted at start up but it boots anyway. I made a ubuntu disk from the website. when in my computer at start-up it does nothing. How do I erase the drive for a fresh install?

Thanks

currently have 10.4 will install 11.10

no need to use a windows disk,

all you need is a bootable ubuntu live cd (or any linux live cd), i assume you have tried this

I made a ubuntu disk from the website. when in my computer at start-up it does nothing

what you need to do is make sure your cd/dvd drive is first boot device in your bios, or, alternatively, use your boot options key (if you have one) and choose cd rom,

follow the instructions for install when you boot from the live cd and one of the options will be 'erase and use the whole disk' (or words to that effect)

Just install the new Ubuntu on your system. When asked, format the old Ubuntu partition (be careful) and use it as the root filesystem. A new GRUB will be installed for you automatically.
