I am not a computer whiz or tech savvy user at all. All i know is how to surf the internet. I heard this was the best forum for advice so I come here looking for help. My OS is WindowsXP BTW.

My computer is doing something weird. Whenever i first boot it up as soon as i click on internet explorer it begins opening multiple copies of it and i stop it by Control-Alt_Delete. I then close all of the windows except one and then it works fine no problems until i log off for the day. Also when i first start it up if i click on a program it has difficulty opening until the above stated actions occur and then everything opens fine.

I do not go to any didgy websites. I have run every scanner i can think of. Nothing seems to work. As i siad once the mutliple IE windows are closed the puter works fine until I og off. It did this once before and i stoppped it but i do not remember how.

Can anyone help me?

OK I like a challenge - so lets see what you have

Download OTL to your Desktop
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    explorer.exe
    winlogon.exe
    Userinit.exe
    svchost.exe
    /md5stop
    C:\Windows\assembly\tmp\U\*.* /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
  • Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Post both logs

THEN

Download aswMBR.exe ( 1.8mb ) to your desktop.
Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it Click the "Scan" button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply
