Macboatmaster -- it has been a loooong time... I don't know if this is the most appropriate way to begin, but you had helped me with this problem more than a year ago...and the exact same problem has returned. I don't know if you are able to help me again...or if I need to start a brand new post and start over again. I just thought that, if you were available, you might remember some of the history. Please advise as to what you would like me to do.

Some quick history:
My home PC (running Win XP) crashed on startup... "Missing or corrupt hal.dll file"
You helped me create a Puppy Linux disk...with which I recovered my files...
With my data recovered, you helped me reload Win XP...
You had me back up my data (a second time) using Acronis...this part did not make a lot of sense to me.
You had me create a Recovery Disk...which I tried to use...but when I select the option to use the Recovery Console, it gives me a c:\windows\ prompt...at which I have NO idea what to type to begin recovery...
I have not read every post in this string...I cannot remember if we created a Restore Point, or how to revert my PC back to that point.
Lastly, I can confirm that my data is all secure on a second hard drive (F:, I believe).
