I have a Startech Sata HD caddy that I am trying to use to try and get data off a bad dard drive. Windows 7 machine is seeing the HD caddy as a generic external device but it is not seeing the 2.5" HD inside the caddy. Is this really bad news and this hard drive is so fried
I cannot get any data off of it? HD came out of an HP laptop that would no longer boot. Message said "operating system not found" And when I did drive check in windows it said replace hard drive. Any other tips on how to try one last time to see if I can get data off of this drive? Thanks!

Hi briahoe
Try replacing the HDD back into the laptop and then use Puppy Linux to try and retrieve the data, see attached link http://www.geekstogo...over-your-data/ good luck and let us know how you get on.
