Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 531 which is about 2 years old. Six months (or so ago) it became extremely sluggish. Internet explorer takes 30 seconds to completely open as does Word and even emails when in Outlook. It freezes up requiring a reboot almost daily. I don't know where to begin to diagnose the issue. I'd be grateful for any help.

Hi Irishen Posted Image

Windows freezes or stops responding frequently.
This issue could be caused by any of the below possibilities.

  • Software related issue.
  • Driver related issue.
  • Operating system related issue.
  • Heat related issue.
  • Hardware issue.
  • Serious issue with Windows
  • Hardware failure.

We can start to look at some basic things by carrying out the exercises below"

Listproccess
A very small program that simply lists the processes that Task Manager lists, including the full path
name so you can see what program they are part of. Some processes waste a lot of computer resources and make your computer sluggish.
Download List Processes for Windows HERE
Save the file to the desktop.
  • Once downloaded to the desktop
  • Double click the Listproccess Icon
  • Click run
  • When the window opens "select" GetList
  • Scroll to bottom of the window and click on Copy
  • Reply to this thread and paste the contents of the list so we can
    see it.

Next
Please download MiniToolBox http://download.blee...MiniToolBox.exe Save the file to the desktop and run it.
Checkmark following boxes:

  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result, along with the list from list proccess

Hi Irishen,

Looks like Malware file, better have a closer look at your machine. I'm going to suggest you have a more thorough scan done in the Malware removal forum. See link provided and follow instructions. There's always the possibility of more malware too especially since it became extremely sluggish.

Hi, I started a new topic in the malware forum per your suggestion.

http://www.geekstogo...o=new_post&f=37

You referenced the problematic ie3sh.exe program. Is there something I can do to remove this or will the malware thread address it.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Cara,

It's best not to do anything until Malware forum has taken a look at some of your logs that they will request from you. Lots of users will start removing files etc and try fixing things on there own and it usually causes additional issues. You will be given a clear set of instructions on how to approach the problem in the malware forum.

Good luck,
