"xxx.xx" file is corrupt + other weird stuff

Sorry about that broad title, don't really know what else to name it. Anyways, I'm back again with a problem. I don't know how I got whatever it is I have, but I've got a pretty good idea how. If you're familiar with Yahoo, when you are reading an e-mail, and then delete it, it goes to the next one immediately. Well one or two have been spam for some reason here recently, and I haven't noticed them in my inbox. Normally Yahoo does a good job keeping spam outta there. Anyways, I ran the OXL scanner, or whatever the name is I forgot. But these are the two notepads that popped up. I don't know how to make a spoiler, so I'm going to try.. Here is the first one that it gave me, Extras.Txt

Now for what's been happening. It has been acting strange as in slower than usual, and saying programs are not responding when they are. It's also saying files are corrupt and need to be check with "chkdsk". It's doing this especially with Google Chrome, for every new webpage almost. I really don't know if I have a virus, or any spyware/malware, but it's acting awfully weird.

Appreciate the help in advance.

Edit: Just noticed I didn't state my OS, don't know if that matters, but it's Windows 7.

Welcome to GTG. Let's help you out with your malware issue(s).

Before we start, make sure you carefully read what I have to say. Don't skip anything. You may even want to have this all printed out in case you're forced to exit this window.


Step 1

How to scan

  • Download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it
  • Click the [Scan] button to start scan
  • On completion of the scan click [Save log], save it to your desktop and post in your next reply


Step 2

  • Double-click My Computer, and then right-click C:.
  • Click Properties, and then click Tools.
  • Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed.
  • Select the Automatically fix file system errors check box.
  • Make sure the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box isn't selected, and then click Start.

You may receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?

Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

Sorry about that, I've been on the phone constantly with HP recently. So I did the disk check, and I did the scan.

Ok, let's do the longer chkdsk in case it might be the hard drive itself dying. Watch the chkdsk process every now and then (it'll take a while to finish). If you see bad sectors and such, let me know.

  • Double-click My Computer, and then right-click C:.
