Ron,
I followed all the current instructions. Downloaded the current Firefox and ran Speedy Fox. Quite a difference. However,..I updated Java console 6.0.29 and see it is not enabled and there isn't a button to enable it. I got a brief message stating Firefox would enable it when current. So FIrefox and Java both updated and not compatible?
Other than this glitch I think all is good. Will wait for a notification to update.

Oh,..still must get Avast.

Lastly,...is there a process to optimize my wireless connection? Devise Manager --> network adapters seem green.
My wireless link comes and goes.

Ok,..followed your current set of instructions. Firefox and Java were both updated and Firefox informs me that java is disabled until the current version becomes available. No button to enable or disable Java in Firefox add-ons. Hmm? If you concur with the current version statement is ok,...then,...ok.

Avast loaded.

If any more input please indicate. Otherwise maybe you could give instruction on how to optimize internet connection other than wireless encription that I will do. I loose my connection here and there and can't figure out why.

thanx and again happy turkey day.

Yes. Firefox 8 and the latest Java do not play together yet.

Not sure what I could tell you about your wireless other than to look on the PC maker's website to see if there is a newer driver. I bought a USB wireless adapter the other day for

$10 so you might try replacing the one in your laptop with a USB one just to see if that helps.

Ok and thank you very much Ron. Your instructions were concise and it was a pleasure to have you mentor the rookie old guy. I will copy some key point below as I won't remember them. So this triage session closed.

many thanx for your patience.
