I have McAfee Antivirus and McAfee AntiSpyware, usually it does the trick. But I have this Couponage malware and McAfee can't get it off without ripping something out that's vital. Do I have anything else on there that I need to get off of there? I got Hijackthis! and here's my log.

7. Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

8. Reboot in normal mode and Please post an Active scan log and a fresh HiJackThis log to verify all is good. Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

No worries

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if the main link does not work) and install it.

Run Clean Up! Reboot when and if it asks.


You might have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

• One
  Two
  
• Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Then post a HijackThis log (not attach) together with the log of the L2Mfix

please run Killbox.

1) Select "Delete on Reboot".

2) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

3) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

4) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

My PC is already running like a dream! After I ran Cleanup! I freed 1.6 gigs of HD space. I really needed that.

You don't know how much I like to hear that

Just a few random bad files to clean up.

• Open HiJackThis
• Click on the configure button on the bottom right
• Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
• Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
• Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\kyf.dat
• Double click on that file.
• HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "no".
  
  Do that for the following files also, until you get to the last one, then click "yes" when HJT asks you to reboot.

I noticed that you have a few unecessary programs running on start up. If you choose to "fix" these with HiJackThis, your not Deleting them, your just removing them from startup. All these are optional.

1. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

2. Open HiJack and do a scan.

3. Put a Check next to the following items

We always recommend against having any software updating itself automatically, even if it prompts the user before applying updates. Stay in control of your PC and disable this task

For a start, on many PCs EVNTSVC/REALSCHED slows down boot-ups unacceptably, using up to 90% of CPU time at times.

Given the extremely simple functionality of this Tray icon, it is a totally unreasonable resource hog – it has been measured to use as much as 1.5Mb of memory at times.

MS Works Update Detection. MS Picture It! (versions 7 to current) use this automatic update feature during the log on process. It can also cause your system to automatically dial into your ISP as it tries to access the internet, if you have your system set to automatically dial when the internet is invoked. To manually update, go to Microsoft's Office/Works update site

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox

Opera

This site is a great source for tightening up security on Internet Explorer settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot
