The GPU is worth upgrading to but bang for buck the CPU is not IMO.

Agreed, the 2600K is only slightly better than the 2500K, for gaming. Maybe upgrade the case to the HAF, 922, http://www.newegg.co...5E11-119-197-TS

yeah, your right...i dont know why i have such an attachment with that stupid cpu.
it would save me a good chunk of money to get his mouse and keyboard.

i have looked at that case before. its great, but the unpainted interior would just bug me. its not my case so i shouldnt care. im going to see how much he cares about a case, but im not going to let him get a $20 one. im sticking to well known brands.
i might go for the big brother of that HAF case, or that nzxt phantom.
now that i look at it, the lanboy air is on sale for $120! (after rebate)

if he goes with a different colored case, the ram wont match it. at that point if i need to change it all i need to look for is DDR3 1600 right?
they will all be compatible with my motherboard correct?

Whatever case you decide upon just make sure it will accommodate the MB (form factor size) has plenty of room for future upgrades, has removable/washable dust filters and a very good cooling system.

Look at user reviews for the NZXT, not the best.
I would not recommend the Lanboy.

Combo 1 for me the case is too expensive, combo 2 you couldn`t order unless the bundled Ram is on the MBs QVL, combo 3 same thoughts as combo 2 so if 2 and 3 are compatible with the MB go for both combo deals.

ok so i took your advice into consideration. i think im going to go with the haf 922.
i like the case, but it doesn't have any dust filters on it, or usb 3.0
the usb 3.0 shouldnt be a problem, because i am willing to bet he doesnt even know what it is.
but no dust filters is a big problem...for me anyway. he doesnt want the same case i have. so im going to try to talk him into this haf 922

i didnt include rebate because he said he wouldn't do it anyway.

The RAM is 1.35v. some boards can very fussy with low voltage RAM, It is no easer to OC, just does not produce as much heat. I would recommend you stay with the same RAM as your build. You will get results just sticking with OC the timing, quite safe, if you go to far, the system just becomes unstable or refused to boot, easy to return to the defaults. playing with the voltage is very tricky, just go a bit to far like
0.o2v, the system will run then the RAM will go kaput, no recovery. Many boards come with auto over-clock RAM features.

I connect to the Internet using a cable from the computer to the router. I use wireless for streaming, sharing, around the house.
A wireless network must be properly secured.

You need to check about the GPU display connection. I feel sure I read that you need DVI on the monitor.
