I recently got the "fake xp security 2012" virus and when I tried to remove it with AVG things got worse. Now I no longer receive the "fake xp security 2012" pop up. Instead I now get an error message when I try to do anything, including running the recommended malware remover or Hijackthis from my flash drive. This is the error message:

Error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"

any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Go to the Virus, Spyware, Malware Removal forum, read the first post and follow instructions.

Come back here once you get a clean bill of health if you still have problems.
