I tried to respond to an email 2 weeks ago and since then my computer is acting erratic. When I wake it up from being asleep the keyboard just types gibberish or repeats letters; sometimes it is just not responding and I have to power the computer off. I have a Microsoft wireless mouse and the HP wireless keyboard that came with the computer.

I installed Malwarebytes and ran the quick and full scans but neither found anything. I updated my AVG and scanned with it but it did not find anything either.

I will appreciate any help you can give. My OTL file follows.

Still having the same problem except this morning the computer re-booted after I woke it up and is was not working correctly. I just did all the Windows updates to see if that will help. As I stated in the previous post this just started happening a few weeks ago.

I posted a link to this post in the waiting room since to date I have not had any responses.

Thank you,

Pat

Hello PrettyPattyPerfect and welcome to G2G! :)

My nick is maliprog and I'll will be your technical support on this issue. Before we start please read my notes carefully:

NOTE:
  • Malware removal is NOT instantaneous, most infections require several courses of action to completely eradicate.
  • Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean
  • Kindly follow my instructions in the order posted. Order is crucial in cleaning process.
  • Please DO NOT run any scans or fix on your own without my direction.
  • Please read all of my response through at least once before attempting to follow the procedures described.
  • If there's anything you don't understand or isn't totally clear, please come back to me for clarification.
  • Please do not attach any log files to your replies unless I specifically ask you. Instead please copy and paste so as to include the log in your reply.
  • You must reply within 3 days or your topic will be closed

I don't see any infection in your log. For now we are going to scan your system and make sure that it's clean.

This looks like driver problem so after the malware scans we are going to check your drivers.

Step 1

Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and click Scan to run express scan. Click OK in pop-up window to allow scan.
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, select Complete scan.
  • Complete scan sometimes takes up to 3 hours to finish so please be patient.
  • Click the green arrow Posted Image at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, in the menu, click File and choose Save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • Copy and paste that log in the next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.

NOTE. During the scan, pop-up window will open asking for full version purchase. Simply close the window by clicking on X in upper right corner.

Step 2

Download GMER from Here. Note the file's name and save it to your root folder, such as C:.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security program drivers will not conflict with this file.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled.
  • Double-click on the downloaded file to start the program. (If running Vista, right click on it and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Allow the driver to load if asked.
  • You may be prompted to scan immediately if it detects rootkit activity.
  • If you are prompted to scan your system click "No", save the log and post back the results.
  • If not prompted, click the "Rootkit/Malware" tab.
  • On the right-side, all items to be scanned should be checked by default except for "Show All". Leave that box unchecked.
  • Select all drives that are connected to your system to be scanned.
  • Click the Scan button to begin. (Please be patient as it can take some time to complete)
  • When the scan is finished, click Save to save the scan results to your Desktop.
  • Save the file as Results.log and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
  • Exit the program and re-enable all active protection when done.

Step 3

Please don't forget to include these items in your reply:

  • Dr.Web log
  • GMER log
It would be helpful if you could post each log in separate post

The Express Scan took 1 1/2 hours and the Complete Scan is still scanning. I started it at 12:50 PM yesterday. I could not sit and watch it all day, so at times when I would look at it there was a question for me to answer, but this is ridiculous! There isn't that much on that computer. So far it found CrucialScan.exe, and an adware, and that is it. It is only a bit over half done according to the graphic so I will be unable to post the results until late today or tomorrow at the rate it is going.

Thanks,

PPP

I chose File, Save Report, for Dr.Web CureIt and it is not allowing me to choose where to save it or anything. It is like nothing is happening. Why is my experience with this program so different than what you laid out in the directions? I am feeling a bit frustrated right now.

I just found the .log file but Notepad cannot open it. I even tried re-naming the file as a .txt file but Notepad cannot open it so I will attach the .log file. Have you used this program before?

Thanks,

Pat

I attached the file to the previous post but I don't see it listed - is it there?

Also when I click on the link in:

•Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled.

it takes me nowhere.

Thanks,

Pat

Can you try to ZIP Dr.Web log then attach it?

Just disable you real-time antivirus protection and do GMER scan.

How should I zip the Dr Web log? When I right click I do not see an option to zip it.

Also, I cannot attach the GMER log because I get a message that:

2011-1212-GMER.log
Upload Skipped (No file was selected for upload)

The file is on the computer on my end.

It said no modifications were found - fyi.

What gives?

Pat

I zipped the Dr. Web log and still got the following message:

CureIt.zip
Upload Skipped (This file was too big to upload)

I cannot upload the GMER log - I think - because it is empty because it did not find anything.

Thanks,

Pat

I did the GMER scan - it did not find anything - I cannot post the log - I think because there is nothing in it because it did not find anything. I posted this information in my previous post but maybe it was not clear.

Thank you,

Sorry about that... I missed it...

Step 1

Please read carefully and follow these steps.

  • Extract the zip file to its own folder.
  • Double click TDSSKiller.exe to run the program (Run as Administrator for Vista/Windows 7).
  • Click Start scan to start scanning.
  • If infection is detected, the default setting for "action" should be Cure
    • (If suspicious file is detected please click on it and change it to Skip).
  • Click Continue button
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
    • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt". Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.

Step 2
