Hello

Follow these to clean my tools and stay safe. At this point, I'm going to tell to the technicians to see what can be done for the power problem, so one of them will pop here to post for further instructions

Download and run this Microsoft Fix to remove security essentials

Next:

To remove Webroot Spysweeper click here and save SSECleanup.zip to Desktop
Once downloaded unzip SSECleanup.zip then double-click the file SSECleanup.exe
At this time a Window will pop up. Once this happens wait until the window closes itself. Once the window closes Webroot Spysweeper will be removed from the computer.

Next:

Congratulations! Your logs are clean! Now that you are clean, please follow these precautions in order to keep safe:

Over the course of the fix you've used a variety of special tools to help with the cleaning process - none of these are of any use to you now that you're clean, and it's best not to have them hanging around on your computer.

Next:

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [EMPTYJAVA]
    [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
  • Open OTL for the last time and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programs we have used plus itself.

Next:

To check for updates to Adobe Reader:
Close all programs and windows.

Open Adobe Reader (click on "Start". Click on "Programs". Click on "Adobe Reader"). When Adobe Reader is loaded, click on "Help". Click on "Check for updates now" (or "Updates").

You will see available updates in the left window. Select all updates or critical items in the left window and click the "Add" icon between the windows. When you have selected all the necessary updates, click on the "Update" icon at the bottom. The system will start processing the update. If there are more that 2 or more updates, you will probably have to reboot between updates.

When done, close all windows.

Next:

Note: If you are using Firefox I would suggest the use of these add-ons:
  • NoScript - for blocking ads and other potential website attacks.
  • McAfee SiteAdvisor - this tells you whether the sites you are about to visit are safe or not. A must if you do a lot of Googling.

Next:

Automatic Updates for Windows
  • Click Start.
  • Select Settings and then Control Panel.
  • Select Automatic Updates.
  • Click Automatic (recommended)
  • Choose a day and a time when you know the computer will be on and connected to the internet.
  • Click Apply then OK.

Next:

Additional security programs - For additional security, the use of these tools is important:
  • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. - Update the free version and scan with it often. It is an excellent scanning tool to have on your side.
  • The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer. This little program packs a powerful punch as it block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers. For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial

Next:

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Next:

Keep a backup of your important files to prevent future data loss.

Happy safe computing !! :)

lets defrag the drive first then run chkdsk /r...
when your done we need to see the CHKDSK Log
Go to Start and type in eventvwr.msc...press Enter
Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.
Double click on the Source column header.
Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry
(wininit for Win7)
(winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

Hi Michael

I ran the Microsoft Fix, ran the Webroot Spyspeeper removal, ran the Run Fix from OTL, updated Adobe Reader and turned on Automotic Updates. Thank you sooooo much for all your help.

Next: Defrag the hard drive...

Something really weird happened after I did the clean up in OTL. Everytime I clicked on an icon on the decktop instead of opening the program the "windows installer" box would appear and ask me to insert my Microsoft CD for installation. I did that and hopefully that took care of the problem. Just FYI

Ok ran the defrag and here is the log:

Well some days I cannot get the computer to stay on. It shuts itself down, no warning no nothing just poof. Once I can get it through the boot up stage then it seems to to able to stay on. When it just shuts itself down I have to unplug it and wait for the little green light to go out in the back and plug it back in before I can turn it on again. This happens every time. Sometimes I have to do this several time before it will stay on. Tuesday I could not get it to stay on..but Wednesday I had to try several time and finally it stayed on. I have not shut the computer down except for the reboots because I'm afraid I will not be able to get it to stay on again.
Thanks

it depends
ask your local shop how much they would charge to to replace the PSU thats in there for one with a 80+ rating of a little greater wattage than your current one
then weigh that against

there are 4 screws that hold the psu in the case...There are also two connectors that connect to the motherboard...one of those is for the CPU and other is a 24 pin main connector is also a 4 pin connector for each hard drive and each optical drive and one for the graphics card... sometimes two the graphics card if it's a gaming rig
if your case contains extra fans is that may have to he plugged in to a power connector if they're not connected directly to the motherboard itself
total time to accomplish all this is less than a half hour
