I have an Iomega eGo portable HDD that lost power while being used. I have tried chkdsk and Windows cannot repair it because the MFT is bad. I tried repairing the MFT using TestDisk but TestDisk says the MFT Mirror is also bad. What, if anything can I do to either retrieve the files intact or repair the corrupt MFT?

The laptop I'm using is Win 7 64 bit.

Thank you for the reply. Recuva will not work for me, I guess because of the bad MFT and MFT Mirror. The Puppy Linux option looks easy enough. Do you think that will work in my case, trying to recover from a portable USB drive?

Nothing is conclusive and I would not tell you anything otherwise, Puppy Linux is a great software for retrieving data but if a HDD is shot then it will be difficult.

Actually I used a program called Restorer Ultimate (http://www.bitmart.net/) and it was thye best $30 I ever spent on software! All files are recovered intact, but now I have the problem of formatting this external and I'm not sure exactly how to do that yet. Is it as simple as righ-click and format? Can you also suggest a program I can run after formatting to make sure the drive is not defective?
