I always try everything that I can on my own before asking for help from others, but I'm at wits end on this one. I sincerely appreciate any help/advise that others can provide to help me fix this problem and prevent other problems in the future.

Background: A couple of weeks ago I my computer encountered a MAJOR infection (spyware, trojan, etc.). Since then I have tried a number of fixes including:
Ran Spybot (safemode and otherwise) - Now says my computer is clean

Ran NOD32 (safemode and otherwise) - Still finds one trojan, but can't clean the infection.

Installed Spyware blaster

Installed Geek Superhero - It lists a number of programs in the Startup manager that web research suggest are spyware programs, even after spybot says I was 'clean'.

Discontinued the use of MS Explorer and installed Firefox, which was a fantastic move!

Installed Java and discontinued use of MS version.

Updated Windows XP

Installed HighjackThis, which resulted in the follwing log:

Please advise me on any programs that I should delete. Also, if anyone can suggest other precautions that I can take to prevent future problems, it would be greatly appreciated! For instance, I have a DSL connection and am currently only using the XP firewall and would like to know if this is sufficient.

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure. Please move Hijack This to a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold:

Thanks for thr response! I ran into a problem in step 1. I could not delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\1090467160.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Shdocvw.dll

The error message said ACCESS DENIED...

I tried to change permission in the file properties, but this didn't work. Any ideas?

I found a utility call 'Move on Boot' that allows files to be moved or deleted before any programs are opened during reboot and this seemed to work for the 1090467160.dll file. However, the shadocvw.dll file is a persistant bugger. Should I proceed with removing the selected HijackThis files anayway?

It looks like a few of the files came back! Are the files with http://213.159.117.134/index.php related to the 'Not So Cool' page that I was getting with MS Explorer?

GeekSuperHero is actually a malware program. It gives your PC adverse effects. You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure. Please move Hijack This to a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu). Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold:

C:\Program Files\Eset\ <- Folder
C:\Program Files\Geek Superhero\ <- Folder

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

I hope I'm not being too much of a pain with all these posts...

I'm a little reluctant to delete the Eset folder because it contains NOD32, which isthe virus program that I purchased after doing online research. Is it really neccesary to delete these files? <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats.
