Computer will not boot. I do not have orginal XP disk but I do have a XP Install Disk. I used the XP CD from my other system and the sick HP Laptop begins to load Windows (Blue Screen). I press R(looked like XP file were downloaded and then it went to Black screen. I beleive I entered 1 for C Drive and it asked for Andmin Password and I don't have it. ENTER doesn't work, nor any of my guesses I will contact my company for the PASSWORd but the original Admin has gone to Greener pastours. Is there a way to deviate or retreive the Passwrd or clean up the boot registry or repair tool for registry ?

Please help.

Hi when you try to boot normally what are the errors stated at the boot failure point ?

Does it reference a specific file or just blue screen ?

"load needed DLLS for kernel", contact your support staff.. something like that

No blue screen, black & white DOS screen with long bronken white lines at the bottom of the screen.

I ran CHKDSK /p 25% completed. Message the volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems.

I'm running CHKDSK /r now at 12%... I really do not know what i'm doing ?

since I made it to C Prompt can I complete the XP Repair ?

From the c prompt could you type the following and let me know what happens :

logon

The unrecoverable problems may well indicate a hard drive failing - or failed

1: C:\WINDOWS

Ask me which installation ? I press 1 ENTER

Ask for PASSWORD ? I press ENTER

Back to C:\WINDOWS>

OK next trick

At the prompt type CD.. (two dots after the D)
This will take you to the C prompt only
Type the following :

FIXBOOT

Accept the warnings

EXIT

Now try to reboot..


Also is the hard drive making a clicking noise ?

I do not hear any noise.

I REBOOTED, below is the full message. Same problem no successful boot into WINDOWS.

Windows could not start becasue of an error in the software.
Please report this problem:
load needed DLLs for Kernel.
Please contact yur support person to report this problem.

The lack of the dll names is a bit of a bugger

You do not have a standard windows XP disc - just the manufacturers driver disc is that correct

I have a Reinstallation CD XP Pro service Pack 3.

I went into F10 ran HDD Self Test. Test 1(quick) - ERROR: read Failure

Do you think i have Drive failure or missing DLLS ?

Personally I feel (based on that and the ChkDisc) that you are in the process of having the hard drive fail.

If you have data on there that you need I would not run the computer but let the IT department look at it when you get back so that they can replace the drive and maybe re-image it

Please explain how I can get the data off. I have a Personal PC, 2ea External drives, and a thumb Drive. Can I use a USB with 2ea male inserts(one into Personal PC and one into HP Laptop). Please explain, there's not much info I need(could even fit on Thumb Drive).

Please just answer each post, after you have tried the suggestions.

My first point is:

and what was that CD ie: another OEM (HP etc) CD or an actual MICROSOFT XP CD

AND more to the point please - what did you DO with it. - or attempt to do.
