I am sorry you have had to wait for a reply, this sometimes happens simply due to the vast number of posts on the site,
My first question, may on the face of it sound a little silly.
However in view of the sudden change in the quality and strength of the signal, and still appreciating what you have tried, there is NOT is there, and please check, any possibility that you are now connecting to an unsecured wireless transmission, more accessible to you AT TIMES, than YOURS.

If this is a usb wireless adaptor please include the make and model of that.
Please also post the make and full model of the router and if it is NOT a modem/router, the make and full model of the modem to which the router is connected.
and the Operating system please ie: Windows7, Vista, XP and the version
Also at the command prompt type ping (space) and the IP address of the modem/router
Are all four packets sent and returned with no loss and in m/s.
Now type ping google.com OR whatever home page you normally use.
Again are all four sent and received.
Also on the prompt please type
ipconfig /all | clip
and key enter
Nothing will appear in the cmd window, it will simply wait briefly and then return to the prompt
Open wordpad or notepad and right click and click paste
The output of ipconfig /all will appear in the document.
Click edit, click select all
click edit, click copy and on your reply panel right click and click paste.
The contents of the clipboard will be deleted on reboot.
OR back at the prompt you may type
echo off | clip
and that will delete them, not of course until you have pasted them in wordpad
The signal strength, shown in your taskbar, notifications area is the strength of the wireless signal received from the modem/router it is NOT indicative of your ability to open a web page. Except of course if the signal was so poor that the wireless connection to the router could not be achieved or maintained.
I will post further advice when you provide the details I have requested.

Typing ping then the router's IP address: All four say "PING: transmit failed. General failure."
Typing ping google.com: says "Ping request could not find host google.com. Please check the name and try again."
Here are the results of the ipconfig /all

2. Try a ping command to the default IP address of the router.
DIR-655 Default IP 192.168.0.1
3. Have you experienced any of the following
a. Your connection does not go to your normal home page
b. Windows updates have not been available
c. You cannot access System restore OR you cannot create a restore point.

That IP is the IP I used when you asked me to ping the router's default IP in your previous reply.
I have experienced two out of those three problems. I can still access system restore and create restore points.

2. To eliminate ANY possible confusion - you are now saying I think that your home page has been changed -
a. Do you know to what please.
b. You could not go to Windows update - was there any message - or was this apparently part of the failure of the connection.

My homepage hasn't been changed to my knowledge, but my connection doesn't allow me to connect to any webpage whatsoever. My homepage seems to be the same as the url in the address bar is still the same as before in the browser I use (Google Chrome).
There was no message saying that windows could not update, I simply assumed that this was yet another issue caused by my connection not functioning properly.

I then asked you - in my post 6
Have you experienced any of the following
1. Your connection does not go to your normal home page.
I DID mean when - after playing around and getting a real connection.
IF when you managed to achieve this connection after playing around - DID IT THEN please go to your normal home page.
2. Re your internet provider -
http://www.videotron...internet-access
which of these alternatives do you have please - you may of course need to change the location to Canada.
3. Are other computers connected to the router - and do they work OK.

The service package I get is custom, but roughly equivalent to this one http://affaires.vide...ess/ultimate-15 but with an unlimited monthly data transfer rate per month.
There are other devices connected to the network which include 3 laptops (including the one I use to access this forum), two game consoles, one blackberry tablet, and one android smartphone, all of which can access the network and the internet through it.

Go here on the working computer
Download and save this
http://uk.trendmicro...s-and-services/
That is HiJack this.
Now go to the laptop with the connection error and run the HiJack
Then save the notepad file to a usb pen and send me the reaults please - AS a copy and paste of the actual log, not as a file which I then have to open.
CAUTION - DO NOT RUN any other facility on HiJack. With just a few clicks you can completely delete or change vital entries that will render your computer completely unbootable.
Create a Startup List
- Open HiJackThis
- Click on the "Config..." button on the bottom right
- Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
- Check off the 2 boxes next to the Box that says "Generate StartupList log"
- Click on the button "Generate StartupList log"
- Copy and past the StartupList from the notepad into your next post
The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.
IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything
Then please go back to HiJack and this time, click Main Menu at the bottom, then click Miscellaneous tools which is top right, then click Open uninstall Manager, click Save List.
Copy and paste the list please.
PLEASE copy and paste both as actual open lists, frm the usb pen and not an attachment which I have to open.
NOTE - I am asking for a HiJack ONLY for the startup items and the list of installed programs.
PLEASE DO NOT attach a general scan result. That is NOT allowed in this forum.
