87 Parameter incorrect! HELP

When i try and attach my external hard drive to my computer is says (87 parameter is incorrect).I have tried it on 2 computers and it says the Same thing
What does this mean?

Since you tried it on 2 computers, it certainly points to the external drive being bad. I note you can also get that error when trying to copy very large (4Gb) files from an NTFS drive to a FAT32 drive. So if the external drive was formatted with the FAT32 file system, you may need to reformat it to NTFS. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881
