i've been looking around and i cant really find an answer to my question, maybe someone here can help me. I'm looking for a laptop that can handle editing 1080p video from an hd pvr in MP4 format. the computer im using now can play it back in windows media player but when i take it into movie maker or sony vegas for editing it lags like you would not believe. Can this problem be fixed with the computer im using now ?

In your case, laptop actually is not a fact. The fact is your laptop specifications. For editing videos, you should try "Cyberlink PowerDirector", it is able to edit HD videos.
But I am saying again, you must make sure that your computer has the necessary resources to run a software like Cyberlink PowerDirector or any powerful video editor like this. Otherwise, you will notice less performance and lagging like this.
For more information on Cyberlink PD: http://www.cyberlink...en_US.html?&r=1
And you can find all the specifications in this link: http://www.cyberlink...ents_en_US.html
