I have been having a lot of problems lately, with my computer slowing down considerably. The major nuisance is that I keep getting alerts from Norton and Ewido telling me that a trojan was found in x or y file, which is always in my windows temp folder. I click okay for it to clean it, but this just happens over and over, generally with different files. Also, cleaned files come back. Ewido tells me I have Worm.Hantaner.A and Norton tells me I have W32.HLLP.Handy, which I believe are the same files.

Also, for a while, I got these alerts linking the trojan to webrebates, a spyware program that infiltrated my system. I think I got rid of webrebates, but now the trojan is showing up as being in the temp files.

I ran a Norton scan, after running liveupdate, and it found nothing. I downloaded a bunch of anti-spyware programs, and I now have SpeedyUpMyPC, Ewido, SpyGuard, SpyBlaster, TrojanHunter, Spybot, Ad-Aware, and Registry Medic to try to keep my computer safe. I also use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer now. [Incidentally, do I need all these, or are some redundant?] These tell me that I don't have any spyware, and they don't find any viruses either.

But I keep getting the alerts. And my computer is crawling along, crashing quite a bit. So I don't know what's wrong. I've posted my HijackThis log below. I'd appreciate any help you could give.

Welcome to GTG theanarch <_<

You only really need spybot and ad-aware for spyware removal. Before we start cleaning up your log please run a free online virus scan here:

And a free trojan scan here:

I ran the Cleaner and the online virus scan, and they didn't turn up anything.

Meanwhile, I realized that the virus has been creating all these temp files, usually in the windows temp folder and about 40MB in size, and thus eating up all my hard drive space. My computer would crash when I tried to delete these files, but I was able to get rid of them using a program called Empty Temp Folders. I am pretty sure it will do this again.

I've been running all sorts of scans, but nothing ever turns up the virus. But I keep getting alerts from Norton and Ewido telling me the temp files are infected with Worm.Hantaner.A or W32.HLLP.Handy. Sometimes it finds Trojan.Bispy. Even while The Cleaner was scanning and finding nothing, I got these alerts.

Any help would be great. My computer has really slowed down and keeps crashing.

I have a similar problem... i have symantec antivirus and have scanned my computer once a week since it was repaired... it hadn't reported any viruses until today, where it told me I had a trojan virus. i searched the net and found a program called stop sign and it scanned my computer, I was amazed by the amount of things it turned up that symantec hadn't... numerous spyware possibilities and about 8 trojan viruses... anyway it helped where symantec couldn't and i thought i'd let you know

Ok the theanarch

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

der_motive, if your in any doubt about your own pc, post a log yourself in the hijack this log forum
