Can you please before we fix you up surf to:
http://www.thespykil...x.php?topic=5.0
and follow the instructions there to upload this file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hookdump.exe
*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Put a checkmark in the "End Explorer Shell While Killing File"
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hookdump.exe
*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

Your taskbar and desktop will shortly disappear, don't worry they'll be back.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

Then Click on the upper edge of the screen and drag it down untill you notice a cross in the upper right corner. Click it to close the screen and you will have access to your real desktop and can change the settings.

Once you have done that, find and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html

I would also advise you to uninstall ViewPoint Manager under Add/Remove Software.

ok well.. google works now. thanks :tazz:

But the image on the desktop never went away. It just sits there, flashing away when I put my mouse over it. o__o Did I do something wrong?

Also .. I deleted that viewpoint manager thing. I have another viewpoint thing, so I delete that too?

Just incase you need to see it...

I forgot to tell you it is a hidden file by default.
See HERE for how to show hidden files.

The path should be: C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\desktop.htt

It is not always present, but I think it should be after this infection.

Good. PM me the original link please. :tazz:

Now edit desktop.htt so it looks like this:
<!----
***** This file is automatically generated by Microsoft Windows *****
-------->
<HTML>
<BODY background="" style="border:none;" bgcolor=#004e98 topmargin=0 leftmargin=0 rightmargin=0 bottommargin=0>

<DIV style="position:absolute; LEFT: 0; TOP: 0; WIDTH: 1024; HEIGHT: 768;">
<IMG src="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/OB/Local%20Settings/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Wallpaper1.bmp" cache style="position: absolute; left:0; top:0; width: 100%; height: 100%;">
</DIV>
</BODY>
</HTML>

It may take a reboot to refresh the whole lot.

For some reason it doesnt let me edit it. It just keeps going back to its original html..

Also.. C:\Documents and Settings\OB\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop.htt

Thats where I've been getting the file. I couldnt find it under windows but I assumed it was the same thing. ( When I was trying to edit the thing on the desktop sometimes it would access that and I recognized the html)

That means something is still actively rewriting the stuff.

Can you post a new HijackThis log?

In case you missed it before:

Click on the upper edge of the screen and drag it down untill you notice a cross in the upper right corner. Click it to close the screen and you will have access to your real desktop and can change the settings.

If that doesn't work: download, install, and run CleanUp!

Keep me posted.

The only thing in your log that needs fixing:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
is harmless and unrelated.

I dont understand what you mean by the cross. I assumed it was the button ( red X ) that you used to close the Hijackthis window next to minimize and restore down.

I also already did clean up.
