Couple of pointers for you, check the MBs QVL (qualified vendors list) to ensure you purchase a CPU and Ram that have been tested with the MB, your CPU has but the Ram has not, this does not mean it will not work just that it has not been tested and passed by ASUS who BTW cannot test every new product, MBs QVL available @ http://www.asus.com/...4A87TDUSB3/#MSL

Case http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811129066 look for a spacious case that has a good cooling system and removable - washable dust filters.
PSU http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817139020 always choose the PSU after all other components are decided on as this will make sure you have enough clean and stable power a minimum of 80+% of the time, PSUs to trust and avoid http://www.10stripe....d/psu/brand.php and use a PSU calculator such as http://www2.corsair.com/psufinder/ (example only)

Alright, thanks! Once I find the time, I'll check out the links you attached. I knew you needed to check if the CPU was tested with the mobo, but I wasn't aware that you needed to do that with the memory too.

I already have an old monitor, keyboard, CD reader/writer, and mouse, so other than the case and PSU, I probably won't be buying much more than you see on the template (at first) except for a separate CPU fan. In the future I'm hoping to upgrade to 16GB RAM, maybe buy a higher-end video card, a new monitor, and a new mouse.

A couple of cautionary notes, unless your OS disk is the full retail edition you cannot use it with a new MB as an OEM disk is tied to the original MB it was paired with, to use an OEM disk with a new MB is software piracy and therefore illegal.
Exceptions to the above are 1: If your MB is replaced under warranty and 2: If your MB is replaced out of warranty with an alternative type but same brand due to the original model no longer being available, an upgraded MB however will require the purchase of a new OS licence.

If you use anything other than the heatsink and fan supplied with the CPU you will void your warranty, see below;

This Limited Warranty shall be null and void if the AMD microprocessor which is the subject of this Limited Warranty is used with any heatsink/fan other than the one provided herewith.

Phil, are you saying that for us who are building a system, buying OEM software is always illegal/piracy? If I go to a computer parts store like Fry's and buy a motherboard, will there be an OEM Win7 that will be available? Does it depend on the motherboard?

Initially no but once registered yes, OEM disks do not have all of the features that the full retail disks have and that is why large retailers such as Dell and HP for example use recovery partitions and provide their own drivers, when you build your own system your equivalent is the drivers disk that will be provided with the MB which is the missing piece in your set-up, the OS licence agreement between you and MS remains the same.
