Hi again iammykyl,

I have another question. I'm getting some random restarts. As far as I know it has happened 3 times, and twice it was when I was not in the room. Finally it restarted while I was using the computer, so I was able to see the error screen. I didn't have time to get a picture of it, but it said something was wrong with the memory.

No, no overclocking.
No, same hardware.
No, No new bios or driver updates, though I think this problem has been happening since the beginning, just not very often. It seems like it is starting to happen more and more often, though.

Those temps look quite good. I think we can get them a little lower.

Advanced Mode >Monitor, > Chassis Q-Fan Control, > set to disable,
Save and exit.,

Let us know the results. Is the fan now to noisy.

The error code in Post #31 looks to me as though there may be a problem with the RAM.
Investigating and will post later.

It is a little noisy, but that is because I turned the chassis fans up to max when I was having the previous heat problem. I could probably turn them down now, but to tell the truth, this system is already much quieter than my previous rig so I am fine with it.

After disabling the Q-Fan thing, the mobo and CPU temps are both 27C--about the same.

At your suggestion that memory might be a problem, I ran Memtest86+ for about 16 hours, and got no errors. Here is a shot of the screen just before I shut it down. Does everything look alright? I was surprised to see only 18% at the top--should I run it longer?

No, I think you should download the latest version and run that, bookmark the page so you can get back to the official forum.

Sometimes you can get a pass when testing 2 or more sticks, then, the surest way is to test each stick individually.

Yes, would be a good idea. Remove the RAM from slot #2, place it in a marked envelope #2, run the test then remove RAM from slot #1 put in marked envelope #1. Install stick #2 in RAM slot #1 and test.

Thanks for your continued attention!

I was pursuing this problem in another thread, the Win7 thread. You can see the drama here:

I thought it might be a problem with the software, so I opened another thread there. jcgriff2 there read the kernal reports and said it --probably-- indicated a problem with the memory, either RAM or the video card. I ran each stick through the latest version of Memtest 86+ (as you suggested also), but nothing, no errors. Happyrock suggested that I also run the WMD, Windows Memory Diagnostic. I ran each stick through one pass, but nothing. In my last post there I stated I would run each stick all night to see if that made any difference. I'll do one tonight and the other tomorrow. Frankly, I'll be surprised if there are any errors. I've tested those sticks so many times already.

Per jcgriff2's suggestion on the other thread I also ran memtestg80 to test the memory on the video card. 1500 iterations and no errors. I suppose I could run that one for longer also, as suggested in the readme for that test.

The system seems slightly more stable. I haven't had a crash or a restart for 3-4 days now. For a while there I was getting them every day. I haven't really changed anything in the system, though. Strange.

What do you think?

As the HDD is not new, it should be tested but first.

Go to device manager, select Hidden Devices, check there are no warning flags.

Go to Manage automatic Update. Select, Notify of updates, but do not download, this to prevent windows from updating drivers.

Go to the event viewer (start => run => eventvwr.msc), check the different sections there and report any warning or error you see. Tell us about the source, the event ID and paste the text you see under description when you double-click the event (right-click => copy doesn't work there so use ctrl+c instead).

Go to the Manufacturers website for you HDD, download the correct diagnostic tool for your drive (dsconnect your external drive) and run the program.

After seeing the report above that there was a problem with the D: drive (a part of my partitioned 1tb hdd), I tried to run chkdsk. I saw a window flash on the screen but it disappeared too fast to see what it said.

Ran the quick test: no errors.

Running the extended test now.

HDD passed the diagnostic. No errors. Also, no crashes since the 12th (5 days).

that is a good result, also not getting any BSOD.

This next advise from Phillpower2, who is more experienced at this type of trouble shooting, (we have already checked the HDD hardware)

I would agree that the integrity of the HDD and the data on it needs to be checked, use SFC (system file checker) for the data, download from http://www.sevenforu...le-checker.html

Take head of the warning. Follow the instruction from Option Two and let us know the results.
