Could I Back Up My Files on my secondary hard drive (Ihave a Dell Laptop that has a removable DVD/RW and i have a 40GB HDD that slots into it's place).

The Reason i ask is because when i first got it i had to do a formatting thing to it and i was wondering if i remastered would i need to do that again to my secondar therefore need to back up it's contents as well, or could i use that as the backup medium?

Hi,

What exactly do you mean with "remastering"?

Well, if you do no formatting on your external drive it could be used as a backup medium without any problems.

Only upgrading to a OS that can't read the filesytem of the HD could be a problem, but most of the time that would mean you are downgrading your OS in stead of upgrading, so this probably won't be any problem at all.
(example: windows 95 en 98 can't read NTFS (2000, 2003, XP), they need Fat 16 / 32)

Hope this answers your question.
