When I type in the command sfc /snannow

Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service.

Try this:

Go to Start, type in Services.msc

Double-click on Windows Modules Installer

Set the start-up type to Manual.

Click OK.

Now try to run the sfc /scannow scan.

You don't happen to have your Windows 7 disc do you?

I do actually. Backed up in ISO form. I hate CD's/DVD unless needed.

Okay, perfect!! I'm starting to think that it'd be best for us to try and perform a repair install of Windows 7 and see if that fixes the issue with that message about the Windows installer not being able to start-up properly. This should hopefully address that issue, and any other issues with any files that may have become corrupted and would have needed to be replaced using sfc /scannow anyways.

I'm going to link you to an tutorial of how to do a repair install with Windows 7. I'd like to have you try doing that and seeing how you make out with that.

Do you feel comfortable following the instructions in this link: http://www.sevenforu...ir-install.html here for performing a repair installation??

As it mentions in the tutorial, you should back-up any data you want to ensure doesn't get lost, just in case something should happen. Better to be safe, the sorry.

I did this (Below) and it fixed my issue with not being able to install files. So fixed there. Being redirected still.

See if there is another copy there you can use, and copy it to your C:\Windows\System32 folder (assuming that your Windows install is on the C drive). Go to Start > Run and type:

cmd.exe

and ok. Copy and paste the below string after the prompt, then press Enter >

dir /s /a "c:\*msiexec*.*" > c:\find.txt && notepad c:\find.txt

Great! Glad to hear you were able to solve the issue with installing files.

Since you were able to get the issue with installing files fixed, I'd like to have you try and proceed with the Microsoft Fixit below for having it reset your host file for you.

Lets see if that's able to reset your host file successfully.

While running the FixIt application, the installer said: "The Microsoft Fix it failed to process".

I'd like to have you try this utility to restore the Host file back to Microsoft default.

Please try this utility below to accomplish this.

Download the HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager.

• Unzip HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager
  
• Run HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager from the folder you extracted it to
  
• Click on "File Handling".
  
• Click on "Restore MS Hosts File".
  
• Click OK on the Confirmation box.
  
• Click on "Make Read Only?"
  
• Click the X to exit the program.
  
• Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.

I get an error when trying to Restore MS Hosts File:
ERROR: Cannot create file C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ETC\hosts

And there isn't a option of Make Read Only?, just Make Writeable?

I also ran it as Admin, nothing different.

Can you try the Make Writeable option and then try to restore the MS Host file and see if that makes a difference.

No difference clicking the Make Writeable.
