download digitql camcorder content to computer

I have a JVC GR-D33u camcorder. I am unable to download content from the camera to my laptop. I am running Vista on a Dell XPS M1410. I have 4 Gig of Ram, and a 144 gig Hard drive. I have tried using DV to USB cables, DV ro DV port, but my computer does not recognise my connected camcorder. I tried installing the included software, ( Imagemixer ver 1.7). I know the software is old,as the company no longer supports any up grades. Does anyone have any ideas how I can obtain the video from the digital tapes I have made form the camcorder. ( Which works well in every other regard except being recognized by the computer) I have also tried an XP computer, as well as a Windows 7 one. I have also tried importing into Adobe Premier Elements 10. Thnaks for any help!
