OK. When Kaspersky said it was installed and ready to scan, I unhooked from the Internet. It's now scanning ... "Scan of 5252 objects completed, no threats detected."
I should mention, I forgot before, that I tried running HitMan Pro, and it hung in both regular and Safe Mode.

Whoops, I didn't select enough files the first time. I'm re-scanning now, I'm guessing it will take quite a while. I sure hope there's some good news for you to see in your morning ....

Yes, I have been in contact with the HitMan Pro people, they are following this thread and were planning to help me next week if this doesn't work.
As I write, the Kaspersky Automatic Scan has been chugging for 17 hours, says there's 5 left to go. 5 threats detected so far, but all are Trojan Spies in old emails.

By now it has completed the scan of the critical areas
If you wish you can stop the scan and proceed to the analysis portion

arrgh. OK, it had gone into sleep mode (this is Vista) and the mouse & keyboard wouldn't respond. I had to tap the power button to bring it back. The mouse wouldn't respond, so I unplugged it and plugged it back in, but the system is not recognizing it, not even in settings. It is *extremely* difficult to navigate around Kaspersky without a mouse, but I *think* I have managed to save the report. Is it safe for me to reboot, do you think?
Oh crap. While trying to figure out what was going on with the mouse, I accidentally closed Kaspersky. When I tried to start it again, it says:
Please try to reboot your computer. Error message is Failed to extract the product into c:\Users\MaryEll~\AppDate\Local\Temp\7440413, error is 193

When I rebooted, the mouse started working again.
I've attached the analysis file. I tried to save the report file, but whatever I got is 390MB, so it's pretty clearly *not* a simple report. I could write a little script to pull out some info from it, if I had any idea what kind of thing I'd be looking for.

Could you right click Combofix please and select run as administrator
Does that work (Ignore any AVG warnings)

It's scanning for infected files. No file names are showing up in the control window. This is the part where, in the past, it has hung. How long should I wait?
