Hi, my friend has been given a RM AL51 4100 Notebook which came from a local authority. It did originally belong to a server network so I was expecting it to ask for admin id whenever I tried to change any settings but the only thing I can't seem to access is the bios, as that is password protected. The machine is running XP Pro SP2.

The problem is that it can't seem to connect to the internet. It has a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G650 wireless adapter in the card port which seems to be running ok, but it when trying to open IE7 or FF it will not connect. When I run>cmd>ipconfig it shows the ip address as zeros. Also the wireless LED does not light up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Sounds like the previous owner defaulted the IP address. To confirm this, can you open the control panel and open your network connections?

Locate the adapter in question -> right click -> select properties.
Scroll down and look for "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IP)" and click properties.
Make sure that you are set to "Obtain an IP address automatically".
