No worries, it is important that you do not do something you are unsure of so we will leave the present tasks and move on, you should find my guidance easier to follow however the HDD must be defragged along the way but I will guide you, see below;

My first suggestion is to tidy up the data on your HDD so please follow the directions provided below starting with Autoruns http://technet.micro...ernals/bb963902

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
5: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
6: Attach to your next reply.

2nd: Download and run TFC from http://www.geekstogo...ds&showfile=187 your computer should automatically re-boot on completion but if not do it manually.

3rd: Defrag your HDD http://www.auslogics...re/disk-defrag/ do this at least once a week in the future, a tidy drive is a faster drive, please note that I am not suggesting that you use any other product or service here.

Post back when you are done or if you have any questions along the way.

You have just done it again, please don`t post or edit while I am replying.

No.

Im not sure what a ZIP file is

Google is your friend http://office.micros...A001127690.aspx

and I have a TFC .. its that dustbin on my desktop I run it daily

Please use the tools that I provide and uninstall them when we are finished.

I used to defrag weekly then someone told me to stop so I did it only monthly

Very much depends on the usage, the amount of programs that are installed and uninstalled and whether uninstalled programs have been done so correctly as in using a programs own uninstaller if provided as opposed to Delete or Add/Remove programs which leaves leftover files behind which clutter your HDD.

Forums are for learning and sharing knowledge so continue reading them and you will learn, once your notebook is running at its best continue to keep the HDD tidy and you will find it should last you for some time yet.

You have a couple of entries on your Autoruns that are not required but deal with the issue below first please;

+ "SymIMMP" "" "" "File not found: system32\DRIVERS\SymIM.sys"

If you have previously had Norton AV (A Symantec product) installed on your computer it may not have been uninstalled correctly, did you previously have Norton AV or any other Symantec product installed?
If you did please run the correct uninstaller as left over files may be causing system instability with Avira https://www-secure.s...n=1&pvid=f-home

As suggested run https://www-secure.s...n=1&pvid=f-home to try and get rid of all traces of Norton and to help with your continued learning when we are done read the tutorial courtesy of Admin regarding AV programs http://www.geekstogo...yware-software/

Ok but try it again and leave it for longer this time please, your whole HDD, programs and files will be searched for traces of Norton, did you not use this tool originally to remove Norton?
