Ok, I have an older Gateway Laptop which currently has Windows 98 SE on it. It has a Pent 2 with 333 mhz processor. I have had nothing but trouble with it from day one. Anyway, I've sinced purchased a new computer and now want to mess around with the old Gateway since I don't really need it. Here's my question. I want to reformat the hard drive ( I have only done this once before, not on this computer and actually was successful at it, so I'm thinking I just might be smart enough to figure this out again:) so do I have to uninstall Windows first or just start the partioning processes. BTW, the gateway locks up constantly and I've tried everthing I can think of as well reinstalling Windows which is why I'm thinking of reformatting the hard drive. Whether or not this will work I don't know unless you have any other suggestions for lock ups. Thank YOu!

hi
if you want to format the hard drive what you can do is boot with a boot disk then run fdisk then format your hard drive. then reinstall your windows to do this you will need a windows 98 cd not a gateway restore disk if you have the gateway restore disk put that in and reboot your pc it should have a restore where it formats your harddrive for you.
