ipod blanks out

my son has a 2nd gen ipod touch(i think) and i have to restore it alot as whilst he is playing it it blanks out. at the moment to fix this i plug cord in then put it in usb. it is up to date.

what do i do to stop blanking from happening?
hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

Sounds like a hardware problem possible with the motherboard of the ipod. Have you tried taking it to the apple store?

the ipod is old so not going to take to apple. last update has stopped the blanking out but the icons still going blank :(

There might be some errors within the ipod. You may want to have it checked at the Apple store but since you said it was old, I doubt you are still covered by warranty.
