You don't need drivers for a monitor.
If you can see a picture on it, it's working fine.

The question is are you getting all the resolutions as sometimes the drivers are needed to achieve that.

[bleep], i thought that wasa going to be it but i can't install it. would you take a look at the process and see what i'm missing?

i download the rar file and load it to my desktop, and open it. it contains 2 .icm files, a .cat file and a .INF file

i go SYSTEM>HARDWARE then open the driver manager, open the other controllers tree and see the follwing drivers:
bus SM
video
video (compatible VGM)
HD audio
Dell printer

i right click video and say install from a specific location. choose the folder where i opened te rar file and hit next. the assistant looks about and then comes back with a "cannot install, couldn't find" message (i'm paraphrasing from Spanish)

i try the same thing for video (compatible VGM) but get the same message.

i've also tried just right clicking the INF file and clicking install but nothing seems to happen.

i appreciate your assistance here.

This concerns me as it sounds like in your Device Manager you find the below list with maybe a yellow exclamation mark. Am I right in my assumption because this would mean there is more then just a monitor driver causing the issue.

i go SYSTEM>HARDWARE then open the driver manager, open the other controllers tree and see the follwing drivers:
bus SM
video
video (compatible VGM)
HD audio
Dell printer

To verify this please do the following.

Please Go to

1: START and the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

OK that answers a lot of the problem. The issue is not the monitor but the main motherboard drivers. Did you get a disk with your motherboard or system that was marked with Motherboard Drivers or System Drivers?

Possibly but I cannot locate it now. There are several that are unnamed that might be the ones. I'll check tonight.

Is it not possible to get the right drivers directly from the Dell website?

Yes it is. What is the make and model of the Dell?
FYI make sure you install the motherboard chipset first.
This is very important as it will guarantee the others will install correctly.
That would be the SM bus first.

It's an Optiplex 745

If I understand you right the motherboard would be R132539.exe here http://www.dell.com/...rivers/us/en/19 ?
