This is my first computer build! Please help! I need to know what wattage power supply to buy, people have told me wildly conflicting things from 850 watts all the way to 1700 watts.

Here is rough list of the major parts not counting fans:

Processor: AMD FX 8120 8-Core Processor

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD

Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GT 520 2048 MB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 DVI/HDMI/VGA Graphics Card, 02G-P3-1529-KR

Hard Drives: Two 75 GB hard drives and one 750 GB hard drive (and I want to be able to add another hard drive with a 2-4 TB in the future)

Other Drives: LG Electronics 24X SATA Super Multi DVD+/-RW Internal Drive Bulk with Lightscribe (GH24LS70) & one floppy drive & one zip drive

RAM: 8GB DDR3 PC3-10600 10666 1333MHz DIMM 240-Pin RAM Desktop Memory 9-9-9-25 Single Stick

Also I would like to know how much I would need to upgrade my power supply if I wanted to add the other 3 possible 8GB ram sticks to the mother board.

Please refrain from using such large and bold fonts as it gives the impression that you are shouting and is bad forum etiquette, small bold for emphasis is fine, thank you.

For your own peace of mind use a PSU calculator to find what is the Minimum output PSU required http://www2.corsair.com/psufinder/ (example only)

For brands to trust and brands to avoid see http://www.10stripe....d/psu/brand.php and http://forum.pcmech....ide-inside.html
Let us know what is recommended, I got a Minimum output of 550 up to 650W.

I very much doubt you need anywhere near 850w in the first place.

The GT520 for a start is budget and rated at 29w on its own. I presume this is a gaming machine?

As it stands, you can get away with a 500w unit, preferably 600w,
