Itunes wont open

Hi all
My iTunes wont open when I click it ,the task manager says it is running. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it but that did not work. I then did a system restore and that has not fixed it. I have looked at the threads on the forum and they suggest problems with Norton but I do not have Norton. I have Tuneup Utilities. The problem was first that I connected my daughter's ipod touch to add music for her and it would not connect to itunes. so I closed itunes disconnected the ipod and now itunes will not open at all even though the task manager says it is. The computer recognises the ipod is connected. Please can any of you clever people help me?
