usb ports help

my usb ports stopped working so i found somewhere on the internet to restore to default settings which didnt work so well now all im getting is plug controller into usb port and press the ps button....since the ports still are not working i cant get out of that screen to do anything else...i tried new usb cord new controller nothing is working...is there anyway to fix this

It sounds more like a problem with the hardware. Something may be wrong with the usb port its self. Unless you know how to take apart and work on it you may want to find someone who knows how or someone that is good with electronics. There are a lot of resources on the internet and I'd be glad to try and walk you through it. Can you give me more details on the model and type of PS3 it is (like a slim)?
