I have repeatedly tried repeatedly to get the computer to connect to my router by Ethernet Cable and so far no luck. This evening I will try to get my computer to connect to my daughter's computer by direct connection (same brand though she has Windows 7 and I'm still on XP). I thought I had a bad Ethernet cable and obtained a known good cable with same result. I don't think I'm missing any steps in setting up the connection. I disabled the wireless connection in case of any conflict as well as downloading the latest drivers for the card from Dell in case mine had become corrupted with no result. I'll post back to let you know whether the computer-to-computer connect works. The wireless problem with the Windows management box not being checked is still persistent. I really hate to take up so much of your time and energy but this has become a matter of honor, if you know what I mean. I'm determined not to let a computer beat me. Perhaps a hammer is in order (chuckle).

Please, have your Windows XP CD-KEY ready.

• Boot from your Windows XP CD. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
• When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears on the screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

• A blue screen will appear and begin loading Windows XP Setup from the CD.

• Next, Windows Setup will find existing Windows XP installations. You will be asked to repair an existing XP installation, or install a fresh copy of Windows XP.

• Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to reinstall Windows XP. After you repair Windows XP, you may have to reactivate your copy of Windows XP.
