For awhile this was just a now and then thing, but it's happening more regularly now. The taskbar is the only thing that disappears, not desktop icons, and any attempt to open any windows for browsing the system times out. I have tried force-closing the process from the task manager, but it never fully leaves the process tree and further, when I try to start a new one via the run function, the system becomes slow and unstable and eventually freezes, forcing a shutdown via the power button. Or, the explorer.exe simply crashes again shortly after being opened. Everything else will work fine if I don't start a new explorer.exe, like right now. Also, update.exe has been crashing on startup recently as well.

I have been running a chkdsk everytime I have to force a restart and I've been defragging regularly and scanning with anti-virus. I did have a Vundo thing once and some info at different sites suggested that it damages explorer.exe or something. Idk, I trust you guys, so I'm asking here, lol.

My system is Windows XP
It's an older Gateway with a second harddrive and upgraded RAM.

I couldn't get the second link to load, but on the first, have you tried their bug-fix download, is it stable/trustworthy/etc?

I've never had any problems with either one of those sites. Kelleys Korner is exclusively for xp. There's another out there,,something like ,, http://www.geekstogo...air-windows-xp/
