CS2 can not save, save as, if a copy

If after opening a photo, making a copy (duplicate), I can edit, alter it or whatever, but I can not save it. I get the message "Could not save because of a disk error". The error message has the Photoshop feather in it, so I am assuming it is a Photoshop error. If I create a copy in Preview I have all save options when working on it in Photoshop. Mac OS 10.6.8.
