usb ports have stopped working?

Hi guys my usb ports the 2 on the left of my acer aspire 5935G have just stopped working, i have tried uninstalling the ports and re-installing them but no joy. after the install i did notice that the comp made a noise of recognition but still my mouse and anything else i plug in does not work, the 1 on the right works fine, your help would be most appreciated.

P.S. just tried the unplugging of all power for about 45mins but still they do not work.
