My friend has started to use his Axvoice.com voip number on his HTC desire. He thinks that will same him a few bucks. The issue is when he calls his clients, his Axvoice number is displayed on the caller ID. He wishes to show his mobile number not the voip number. The control panel on Axvoice's website shows alternate caller ID feature but we could not configure our mobile number with that.

Sounds like what you're trying to do is CallerID Spoofing. That's illegal in the US because of the Truth in Caller ID Act. It's a common problem Google Voice users experience. Really the only solution is to port your existing number to the VoIP service. With mobile some people are dropping voice service and using only data for VoIP voice service.
