Hello and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Kat, and I'll be helping you get this pc fixed back up!

First I want to say THREE YEARS?? Wow, you must have the patience of a saint! I'd have thrown my pc out the window by now. :tazz: I've already scanned over your HJT log, and know what we need to do. give me about 10-15 minutes to write it all up, and I'll post back with instructions! ;)

ok here we go! You should either print these instructions, or save them to a Notepad file on your desktop. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, and you will be unable to access the internet at that time!

1. First, you need to uninstall the following programs by going to Start>Control Panel>Add & Remove Programs:

New.Net
Toolbar
**ALL P2P/Warez programs.
The one you have installed is the one causing you to be so severely infected. Once we get you cleaned up, I will give you a link to a list of SAFE alternatives!

2. I need you to download the following programs that we will use a bit later:
  • Please download CleanUp!. Install it but don't run it yet.
  • Download CWShredder Here.Update it by opening and click "I Agree" then "Check for Update". Then close CWShredder, we will use it later
  • Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.[list] Install it and open the program. Check for updates, and then close it for later.
  • Download the trial version of Trojan Hunter here Install it and check for updates, then close.
3. Reboot into Safe mode by continually tapping the F8 key as the pc begins to start up. You will be taken to a screen that will give you the option to enter safe Mode.

4. Run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about

5. Go to Start | Run

Then type services.msc

This will lauch a new window, scroll down on the list and search for WebSeach Toolbar support NT service or (TBPSSvc)

Right click on this entry and select stop

Now right click and select properties, you will get new box with tabs.
In the General Tab, look for Start Up Type: in the drop down box select Disabled

Click Apply then OK and then do the same for TCPIP Managing Service then close out of that.

Open HJT and click the "Open misc tools" section. Then click "Delete an NT service". In the text box paste or type winmgmc and click OK. Then let the machine reboot.. take it back into SAFE MODE though as it reboots!!

6. Open Ewido while in Safe Mode, and let it scan and fix everything it finds. Please save the log at the end, to paste me in your next reply

7. Open TrojanHunter and let it scan and fix everything it finds.

8. Open HijackThis and scan for a log. Place a check next to each of the following entries IF found:

Looking *much* better! Still a few things to do though!

1. Turn off System Restore.
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Reboot
2. Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.
  • Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.
  • Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.
  • Select "Delete on Reboot".
  • Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    C:\Windows\System32\hotkysvc.exe
    C:\patch.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ds32gmkb.dll

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
  • Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
3. Click Start > Run.
Type regedit and click "ok"

Navigate to the subkeys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Ole
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Ole
HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_USERS\.default\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Ole

In the right pane of each of the above , delete the value:

"CPQHotkeys" = "hotkeysvc.exe"

Exit the Registry Editor.

4. Open HijackThis and click "Scan". Place a check next to each of the following if still present, and then click "Fix"

O2 - BHO: ds32gmkb - {630CAD49-7E44-BCE3-8E85-52911D7E640E} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ds32gmkb.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [CPQHotkeys] hotkeysvc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [CPQHotkeys] hotkeysvc.exe
O16 - DPF: {FA3662C3-B8E8-11D6-A667-0010B556D978} (IWinAmpActiveX Class) - http://cdn.digitalci...illama/ampx.cab

Then REBOOT

5. Locate the CleanUp program from the last step, and run it again!

6. Go into Ewido, and please delete all of the viri that is sitting in the Quarantine vault!

7. Turn ON System Restore.
  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
8. Reboot and post a HijackThis log here in a reply. Let me know how things are running now. If you still are having any problems, please give me descriptions of what they are. There's another scan I'd like you to do after this if you would, and I'll tell you about that in the next reply!

I accidentally didn't turn off my system restore before doing the steps cause it was scrolled down and I didn't notice until the last step. Is this ok or do I need to redo all the steps? The computer seems to be running much faster. Boot up is quicker, my internet explorer actually works, and I've got lots of new space on the harddrive.

Go ahead and disable the System Restore, reboot and then turn Sys. Restore back on so you have a clean restore point!!

HERE is the page of the "safe" P2P programs I promised you!

Congratulations! Your log is now clean! :tazz:
Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
