The restore I created is present along with 4 other restore from the past 2 days. One says automatic and 2 say install and one says uninstall. Those installs/uninstall is from fixing a problem with Outlook. Protection for C is on.

Lets try this it is a slight variation on what you have already done.

1. Clean boot it - be careful please that you read the instructions as one wrong step and you will delete all restore points

So you do step 1 on here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Then do this please
IF a 3rd party firewall is being used, ensure that the native Windows firewall is now on.
( Control Panel > Windows Firewall )

Now download and save the Fixit on this page: How do I reset the Windows Update components
Once the download completes close all open programs and browsers.
Now run the Fixit while the system is connected to the internet.
Choose the Aggressive mode .
Restart the system when the Fixit is finished running.

Undo the Clean boot steps you previously did, and reboot once more.
IF a 3rd party firewall is installed, ensure that it is on now.

Is the updating error resolved ?

Followed the steps as you asked. Only variance was that Fix-it to not offer the aggressive mode. I downloaded from the link you provide. Windows still will not update. Still receiving the following error when attempting to update from Control Panel

Error 80070005

Mac, it looks like you are not showing file extensions. wuapp is actually wuapp.exe and depending on your Folder Options settings it will show in different places.

I use Details view, Show hidden files and folders and unchecked Hide extensions for known filetypes, so it looks like this:

wuapp.jpg

I agree, I do not have file extensions on.

buckman reports

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\muweb.dll,LaunchMUSite

when i open the location goes to:

c/windows/system32/rundll32

and I was checking that he is not telling us that
wuapp is listed as wuapp.dll

I have sent you a PM

Hi there lets check the files and registry, as I have slightly different tools to the Tech side :)

run farbar service scanner

Posted Image

Tick "All" options.
Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.
