NOW I hope you will not be annoyed after all the time we have spent together, but DOES your neighbour KNOW

I'll be very pleased if this solves some problems.

The neighbour's signal is always coming in stronger, so I doubt they even noticed anything. It's not like I shouldn't have checked when I set the router up, but I'm not very familiar with routers and when I received it from the ISP, they said it was all configured and good to go. If you hadn't suggested it I may never have gone into the router, known what to look for and fished around in the settings. So, thanks for that.

You think that's all it was? Just two routers on the same channel?

ensure your network card is configured that way.

I've found some of the settings in the router but I don't know where to look at my network card settings to compare them. Maybe this isn't necessary now?

I'm directly plugged into my router now. I've set it so it is the only way for me to access the settings.

I'm also still receiving the DHCP error.

I am looking at the channels on the router and there is no one else on my channel.

that's only if your connecting using wireless...when plugged into the router you do not even need wireless turned on in the router unless you have other computers connecting using wireless

'System' Log - warning Type

Are these files present in the system

C:\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\afd.sys
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\tcpip.sys
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\netbt.sys

Note that all the above three drivers need to be started not thru
Service.msc but you can check in Device Manager...Show hidden
devices

Open Device Manager...Click View...Show Hidden devices
Double-click Non-Plug and Play Drivers.

Double-click AFD, and select the Driver tab.
Set the Startup Type to "System"

Repeat the same for these two drivers:

- TCP/IP Protocol Driver
- NetBios over Tcpip

Restart.

Yes. I meant "warning". Sorry for the slip.

Yes.

All three drivers were already set to "System".

Quote

netsh winsock reset catalog

This script ran and I was asked to reboot.

Quote

netsh int ip reset reset.log

Nothing happened when I ran this.

Sorry, but I have no idea what you are asking me to do. My knowledge of computers is limited. Please explain what a "chipset driver" is and how I should go about reinstalling it. Thanks.

what is the make and model of your computer...
or motherboard make and model...you can get that info by going here and getting CPU-Z...launch it and click on mainboard..the make and model would be the best in case the manufacture has their own chipset driver but cpu-z will work too...

Sorry for the slow reply. I picked up another external drive yesterday and have been slowly copying data. I'd post a screenshot, but don't seem to know how. Looks like I need to upload to a link. Anyways, I likely won't be getting back to you for another day or so.

Under Mainboard Tab:

Motherboard
Manufacturer: Toshiba
Model Portable PC Version A0
Chitset: ALI ID1672 Rev.00
Southbridge: ALI M1533 Rev.00

date: 05/19/2003

Graphic Interface:

I still could not find a chipset driver...
I'm afraid only a recovery will reinstall it...does it have a recovery partition or did you get a recovery cd when you bought it
