I just got a older Antec desktop from someone & theres no sound.I dont know if this computer has a sound card or if drivers need updating or what. Can someone please help me get sound on this computer? Im using XP.Please & thank you!

If the above doesnt work then try an update of your audio driver.

You need to register the program in the link above and you get two free drivers in a 24 hour period.


Hit start button at lower left hand corner of the screen.Then in the run box type services.msc. Look for windows audio/anything to do with audio and make sure the startup type is set to automatic. To do this,right click selected service select properties then change the startup type to automatic then left click apply.You will need to reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.


If all else fails then uninstall your audio driver in device manager then use driver sweeper,reboot then go to manufaturers website and get the driver from there.

i uninstalled the vinyl ac'97 codec combo driver & rebooted.Then installed the 2nd one you suggested which happened to be vinyl ac'97 codec combo driver. & there was no sound.Then I did the microsoft fix thing & still no sound.Oh also,i have no external speakers & i dont think this old monitor has speakers so im using headphones plugged into the tower.

Has this machine ever been bumped or anything perhaps re-seating the sound card will help.
