Google Chrome suddenly closes

Hi

Recently, Google Chrome has started to suddenly shut down on its own. It takes several attempts towards restarting Chrome after which it stops shutting down. It has worsened over time and I'm finding it really difficult to work online, because it keeps shutting down in between.

I initially posted this in Malware forum:
http://www.geekstogo...uddenly-closes/

But, it is not a virus apparently.

Please advise.

Regards
Jolene

If you are monitoring the Waiting Room thread you will have seen my reply there.

Since leaving my colleague mailprog in Malware, what please have YOU tried to resolve the issue.
That information will of course save both of us time in going over ground that has already been covered.

I am presently acquainting myself with the details of the system etc in the Malware thread and I will post again shortly.

HAVING examined most of the Malware thread, it seems to me that you should start here
You have ESET installed I think - please see the LIST on the link below under the heading crashes

If that falls within the area of my second paragraph on this post - already tried and you have examined the known conflicts with Google chrome, the it appears at this stage that you may have to resort to a new profile.

However I would not rush into that step BEFORE you have checked the known conflicts.
Does it crash if you disable all extensions as they are called in Chrome. (add-ons.)

I appreciate that this would not be a permanent fix, but you may find, IF IT does not then crash, that you can work through the add-ons one at a time, until a cause is established.

Hi Macboatmaster

The conflicts don't show any conflicts any more. In fact, there was only one run (one of the two i had attached in my earlier topic) which had a "possible conflict", but that doesn't link to anything anymore, nor does it recur if I enter about:conflicts in the address bar.

Also my ESET is a higher version than the one mentioned in the link you mentioned. So, that shouldn't be a problem.

Regarding the extensions, I had tried running -incognito mode (extensions are disabled in incognito). That too shuts down just like normal mode. Mailprog had asked me to check this in the earlier thread. So, we can rule out the extensions.

I haven't tried any besides these. I don't know what else to try.

I dohave Download Manager, not Internet Download Manager(which is what is mentioned in CRASHES in the link you gave), mine is Download Accelerator Plus. But, I've had DAP for over 3 years now, so I don't see why that should suddenly cause problems.

Thanks

Jolene Singh

Updates to Chrome may cause a conflict that was not there before.
If when you have worked your way through all in the link I have sent, then the only answer as I see it is, does it occur with a new account.

OR alternatively having backed up as required aspects of Chrome, uninstall and reinstall Chrome

I don't think its DAP. DAP is attached to my Chrome as an extension. Its not like Internet Download Manager. We can rule out the extensions.

How can I backup all my bookmarks? I don't want to lose my bookmarks and save form data?
Once I know I can back it up and then import it, I think I should try a full uninstall and reinstall.

But have you examined the FIRST link I sent, on my first post

then it appears at this stage that you may have to resort to a new profile.

To save you looking here is the sub link from the heading crashes.

this I think is certainly the aspect to try before you proceed to the ultimate of an uinstall and reinstall of Google Chrome

The reason we send the advice as links wherever possible is that it saves a tremendous amount of typing

Hi. I had seen the link. I had visited this subheading too.
But, I read just the initial points, (and I've done those steps before and lost my bookmarks), and so I asked for bookmarks.
i re-read them now, and i notice that i missed the last para on keeping bookmarks.

No, I don't think you are being unhelpful at all.

I appreciate your efforts. Sometimes, prodding us in the right direction is maybe the best any specialist can do.

I'll follow those steps and tell you how if it made any difference.

thanks
jolene

Thanks for your understanding.

We always use the links if possible.
You can I am sure imagine the typing that would be involved if all of the dozen or so threads I am working on required a full typed line by line suggestion.

Please do let me know, because if this does not solve it, we can start to look at events, and other aspects of what may be causing the problem.

Hi

I first changed the default folder and copied by bookmarks.bak. It still shut down suddenly.

Then I thought maybe I should not copy the bookmarks file. So I again changed my default and it again shut down..

So I don't think this is it!

I have. And I haven't copied my bookmarks yet (which is a pain). But, I'm keeping watch on it now. It closed down once, but again I'm not sure if I accidently closed it or it was the same issue recurring.
