In your instructions where it says: "In the black window that opens, type in the path to the fix_registry_permissions.bat file and press Enter" what is the name of the "Path" that I should type in?

Thank you

It is on the desktop right click it select properties.>Click Details there you should see the path. NOTE: That I edited post #13 I left something out you will need to download SubInACL utility SEE Edited post.

When I say download I know you can not at the moment you will have to get to a working computer to do this.

If that doesnt do the trick for you then please do the following. You will need a working computer to download this file.

Go to this link http://www.sevenforu..._extentions.zip
Download the file>Save it to your desktop>Create a new folder>Put the file in the new folder unzip it there>Scroll Down toFind the default msi>Right click it and merge then reboot.

Source of the direct download.
http://www.sevenforu...ns-restore.html

The MSI file is the default Windows Installer :)

Hope this helps

In following the instructions on Edited Message #13, when I attempt to enter the file path onto the black CMD screen it is not

Attached find a screen shot showing the file path I am shown. Exactly what should I enter as a file path.

Also when I go to: http://carrona.org/resetreg.html I get this message:

type in the complete path to the fix_registry_permissions.bat file (including the filename)

How do I include the filename with the complete path?

Thank you

The only Windows Disk that I have is entitled:

"Drivers and Utilities" Is this the disk you are referring to?

Yes, I can run in Safe Mode.

Should I insert the disk at this time or wait until later in the process?

Thank you

Run the fix in safe mode. Also this disk will do no good as it is only a driver disk.Run the last fix I suggested in normal mode.

When I click on "Merge" I continue to get this message:

"Cannot import C:\Users\Lewis\Desktop\msi.reg: Error accessing the registry."

Would this process be easier for you if I granted you remote access to my laptop?

Thank you

I can not do that rules.:)

Try a system restore to the oldest possible restore point.
http://windows.micro.../system-restore

Hit the button that says show restore points older than 5 days and select a point when you know for sure this problem wasnt happening.

It took a while but the System Restore was successful

I am nearly speechless.

When Windows reopened Chrome Browser was once again functioning on my laptop and it appears that all of my favorites and setting have been restore.

I can now download programs again.

It is a 21st century modern miracle a la Rock Milk.

Although my systems appears to be back to normal is there anything I should do to test and verify that I am back to normal.

I greatly appreciate all of the time and effort you have put into assisting me and particularly appreciate your great patience and the manner in which you explained the various procedures involved in attaining a solution in language that a computer novice such as myself can comprehend.

Best regards,

Lewis
